About Dr. Beverly Brosky
Dr. Brosky, is a licensed psychologist, who
earned a Doctor of Psychology degree (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from the
American School of Professional Psychology (now Argosy
University in Washington, DC). She continues learning through
continuing education courses.
She
has certification in
clinical hypnosis through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis
(ASCH) and training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
(EMDR). She conducted
research examining the prevalence of trauma, posttraumatic stress
disorder (PTSD), and dissociation in court-referred adolescents. She
presented her research at the annual meeting of the International
Society for the Study of Dissociation (ISSD) in 2002 and published
her research findings in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence in
2004.
She received
additional training from the Psychiatric Institute of Washington,
DC; Whitman Walker Clinic of Northern Virginia; and the Northern Virginia
Family Service. She completed an APA approved,
pre-doctoral internship at Crownsville Hospital Center, Crownsville,
Maryland. Dr. Brosky served as a staff psychologist with Fairfax
County Adult Detention Center and Woodburn Center for Community
Mental Health. She has advanced training in forensic evaluations
from the Institute of Law, Psychiatry, and Public Policy at the
University of Virginia. She has experience at community health and community mental health
centers, inpatient hospital settings, adult forensic centers, and in
full-time private practice.
Dr. Brosky's diverse experience is helpful in her clinical practice.
She understands the business world from having worked in the corporate high-tech business
industry. Prior to that, she earned a
Master of Arts degree in Education from California State University
at Los Angeles and taught children with learning and emotional
problems.
Dr. Brosky's leadership in professional associations includes being
Secretary to the Northern Virginia Academy of Clinical Psychologists
of the Virginia Psychological Association and served as Treasurer
(2006 -2008). She is a member of the American Psychological
Association and its Psychological Hypnosis and Independent Practice
Divisions and has belonged to its Health Psychology Division. She is also a member of the
American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) and the Society of
Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (SCEH).
